A Whole New World in 360
It’s important that students are able to see the world that lies beyond their backyards. However, we can’t just pack our students on a plane and take them on a new adventure in a moment’s notice. We'll be creating our own Google Cardboard sets, as a maker activity, and putting together our very own photospheres to help students see a whole new world. We will also use GeoGuessr to set up an opportunity for students to use critical thinking skills in determining where a location is.

We'll also have the opportunity to connect with another class somewhere in the world through a Mystery Hangout. So, if you're a geography junkie, and you're looking for ways to show your students the larger world, then this sesssion is one you won't want to miss.

Flipping over Flipped Instruction
"Flipping" seems like the new educational technology buzzword of 2016, but what exactly does it mean? In this session, catch the bug as we discuss flipped and blended instruction. Topics covered will include videotaped lessons, useful resources, and best practices to begin. In addition, by the end of the session, participants will create a flipped/blended video that they can use with their students.

This addresses Common Core standards in all areas, because educators will be able to distribute any content to students through video.

Passion Project 20Time
Would you like your students to come to school excited because they can make a difference? Why not give them time to identify an existing problem and have them work on solving them. All the while, you can get them to document what they are doing and connect the work students are doing throughout to Common Core Standards. As students solve problems, they blog and do research on what they want to do and finish off with a presentation. Great for English teachers who are looking for writing assignments and for math teachers who can help students solve problems with perseverance as if it was a math problem. But this project can be done by teachers teaching any subject. Teachers will go through all the steps as if they were students and learn of different apps that can be used by students to document their work.

Coding with girls?? The beauty in teaching students how to code is multifaceted. It teaches them how to think. It teaches them a new “language”. And, best of all, coding activities support Math AND ELA Standards. Through learning how to code at a young age, girls actually become the crafters of their future. They become the creators that we aim for them to be.

Join this session to discover how we can get more girls to take a deep dive into the world of coding. Plus, it ticks so many of the Common Core State Standards.

Level Up: Five Ways to Gamify Your Classroom
The face of instruction is changing, as educators often struggle to engage digital natives. Gamification, or applying game mechanics to non-traditional settings, has proved to be an innovative and effective way to capture the interest of today's learners. In this session, educators will create a basic template to help them begin the process of gamifying their classroom for little or no money.

This will support Common Core standards, because it can be used by any educator in any content area at any level. The engagement and empowerment levels for students will be amplified, facilitating teaching and learning.

Student-Created Videos as formative assessment
A short video tells more than a thousand questions answered on a test.
Student-created videos demonstrate what students lack and what they truly understand. It is important that students make their work public for the world to see so they have a real audience. Let's make video tutorials ourselves to see how we can guide our students to make one. We'll discuss how to grade these video tutorials so teachers won't have to spend too much time at home watching them. Students can use Youtube, Educreations, Explain Everything or Green Screen by Do Ink to do their work. Student-created videos that are done flawlessly can be an addition to your flipped lesson as well.

CCSS believes collaboration and publishing by students is fundamental for future success in education. Using Google Sites is a great way to allow your students to create digital portfolios and allow them to easily publish their work. As a teacher, you can also use Google Sites to create a classroom website and use it for posting homework, keeping a class calendar and communicating with parents. In this session you will leave with a working website that you (or your students) can use this coming school year.

Girls CAN Code
Coding with girls?? The beauty in teaching students how to code is multifaceted. It teaches them how to think. It teaches them a new “language”. And, best of all, coding activities support Math AND ELA Standards. Through learning how to code at a young age, girls actually become the crafters of their future. They become the creators that we aim for them to be.

Join this session to discover how we can get more girls to take a deep dive into the world of coding. Plus, it ticks so many of the Common Core State Standards.
